Effects of Visual Loss in the Corpus Callosum in Rats Subjected to Sensory-Motor Training International Journal of Morphology

The purpose of this study was to analyze the changes in the dimensions of different portions of the corpus callosum in rats subjected to sensory-motor enriched environment with visual loss. We used 24 adult Sprague­Dawley rats divided into three groups: G1 (n = 7) control, G2 (n = 10) subjected to sensory-motor stimulation, and G3 (n = 7) subjected to sensory-motor stimulation followed by visual loss by retinal injury. The brains were extracted and the corpus callosum was divided into three parts of equal length, corresponding to the genu, mid-body, and splenium, and the callosal area was determined according to the method described by Aboitiz et al. Sexual Dimorphism in Mesiodistal and Bucolingual Tooth Dimensions in Chilean People International Journal of Morphology

The study investigates the presence of sexual dimorphism in the size of the permanent teeth among Chilean individuals. Mesiodistal and bucolingual diameters were measured in the teeth of 150 patients between 18 and 24 years old, 67 males and 83 females (excluded were third molars and pieces with large cavities and fillings). The largest were found in males; the differences in mean bucolingual diameters with p<0.05 were observed in pieces 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.6, 1.7, 2.6, 3.3, 4.1, 4.2, and 4.5; and with p <0.01, the relevant pieces were to 4.4 and 4.7. With regard to mesiodistal dimensions, the only significant difference p <0.05 was found in piece 1.2. These results show that sexual dimorphism can be found in all group teeth.

Valoración de la Actividad de Modelos Anatómicos en el Desarrollo de Competencias en Alumnos Universitarios y su Relación con Estilos de Aprendizaje, Carrera y Sexo International Journal of Morphology

La actividad de modelos anatómicos se realiza en algunas universidades chilenas con el objeto de facilitar el aprendizaje en anatomía considerando la dificultad para obtener cadáveres humanos. Se diseñó una encuesta que evaluó la opinión de los alumnos de kinesiología y fonoaudiología que realizaron la actividad de modelos anatómicos en primer año de su carrera en la Universidad de Talca. La encuesta se refirió a si esta actividad es favorable como actividad de aprendizaje y si es posible desarrollar competencias cognitivas, procedimentales y actitudinales.
